Hotel Management Course after 10th: Is the One-Year CHM Right for You?

A one-year certificate that prepares you for hotel and restaurant jobs straight after Class 10. Here is what it covers.

Not every student wants to spend three or four more years in a classroom before starting work. If you have finished Class 10 and you are drawn to hotels, restaurants or travel, the Certificate in Hotel Management (CHM) at IHMS gives you a practical start in one year.

What is CHM?

CHM is a one-year certificate programme run by IHMS over two semesters. It covers the basic skills every hotel needs, taught mostly through hands-on practice. The total fee is ₹75,000.

What you will learn

You train in all four hotel departments. In food production you learn kitchen basics, hygiene and cooking methods. In food and beverage service you learn how to lay a table, take an order and serve guests properly. Front office covers reception, check-in and handling guest queries, while housekeeping teaches you how rooms and public areas are kept to hotel standards.

You practise in the same facilities our degree students use: the training kitchens, the training restaurant, mock hotel rooms and the front desk. Alongside this, the course works on spoken English, grooming, personality development and basic computer skills, because these count in every interview.

Jobs after CHM

CHM prepares you for entry-level roles such as commis chef, F&B service associate or steward, front desk associate, housekeeping associate, guest relations associate and banquet and event staff. Cruise lines, airline caterers, cafes and quick-service restaurant chains also hire certificate holders.

These are first jobs, so you start at the bottom of the ladder. With experience and good work, you can move into supervisory roles over time.

CHM or BHM?

The difference comes down to time and your long-term goals. CHM gets you into work quickly with practical skills. The four-year Bachelor of Hotel Management, which you can join after Class 12, goes much deeper into management, law, marketing and specialisations, and includes two semesters in the industry. If you are aiming for management roles later, the degree gives you a stronger base.
